Police make arrest in killing of man in East Bakersfield on Tuesday

UPDATE (6 p.m.): Police have arrested a 21-year-old man for murder in the death of a 19-year-old Tuesday afternoon in East Bakersfield.

Police said they arrested Izrael Rubio in connection to the killing of Louie Arturo Hernandez on Tuesday afternoon in the 800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Police said Hernandez was a victim of an assault. Hernandez was shot at around 2:30 p.m. and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Rubio was arrested and booked for murder, gang participation and conspiracy.

Bakersfield police said a man died following an assault Tuesday afternoon in East Bakersfield.

Kern County coroner identified the victim as Louie Arturo Hernandez, 19, of Bakersfield. Officials say his death is being investigated as a homicide, but would not release how he was killed.

Officers were called to the 800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard just before 2:30 p.m. for a report of a man down on the side of the road.

Emergency crews attempted to save the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Details on what exactly happened were unclear, but police would only confirm the man was a victim of an assault and a homicide investigation is underway.

Police did not identify the victim.
