Bakersfield police are still looking for one of the robbers involved in the shooting of a boy at Silver Creek Park, after investigators tried to locate the robber by tracking the victim’s cell phone, according to court documents.
The boy, who was shot in the leg Saturday after having his cell phone stolen by two people at the park on Harris Road, was taken to a local hospital and survived, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
One of the robbers was arrested shortly after the shooting, but did not have the cell phone on him, police said.
Investigators then requested a search warrant in an effort to use the victim’s own cell phone to locate the other robber, using MetroPCS data to track the phone through GPS, according to the documents.
Police were not able to locate the cell phone through this method, the documents specifying that “no data [was] retrieved” from the phone.
The identities of the victim and the two robbers have not been released. Police did not specify if the robber arrested following the shooting was the person who shot the victim.
