Police Activities League set to host annual Hometown Heroes Dinner

News

The Bakersfield Police Activities League will host its annual Hometown Heroes Dinner next week.

This year, PAL will honor the Motor City Auto Center for its contributions to the community.

PAL pairs cops with at-risk youth in high crime areas and provides positive alternatives for them, including sports and tutoring.

Sgt. David Brooks with the Police Activities League said the organization provides a safe haven for kids.

“It gets them off the streets, brings them here to the facility, where there are cops at the facility and staff from the police department, and ultimately we’re bonding, building relationships with them.”

All of the proceeds from the the Sept. 13 dinner will go to PAL and the programs it offers kids.

17’s Jim Scott and Tami Mlcoch will emcee the event at the Bakersfield Petroleum Club.
