Police: 2 women struck by vehicle in East Bakersfield didn’t have right of way

Police say two women who were hospitalized after getting struck by a vehicle in East Bakersfield Friday night didn’t have the right of way.

Bakersfield police said the two women were hit by a car at the intersection of Beale Avenue and Flower Street at around 9:30 p.m.

Police said the women were crossing Flower Street, but were crossing against a red light. A car traveling northbound at Beale Avenue then collided with the two women.

The women were taken to a nearby hospital with minor to moderate injuries. They were listed as stable.

Police also said a person who witnessed the collision stopped to help the two women who were hit. Officers at scene, however, detained the person and was arrested for DUI.
