Bakersfield police said a man was struck and killed by a passing vehicle at Union Avenue and East Third Street, Monday night.
The collision happened at around 8:30 p.m.
Police described the man killed as being about 50 years old.
Bakersfield police Sgt. Rick Dossey said the man was wearing dark clothing and was not in a crosswalk when he was hit.
Dossey said there were two people in the car that hit the man, and were cooperating with investigators.
Alcohol or drugs do not appear to factors in the collision.
Police said traffic will be blocked off in the area for several more hours.
