A man is dead after he was struck and killed while walking along Highway 58 in Keene.
On Sunday, Nov. 4 around 9:15 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers responded to a crash south of Bakersfield on Highway 58 west of E. Bear Mountain Blvd, according to CHP.
Witnesses told officers that a man was walking in the right shoulder of westbound Hwy 58 wearing dark clothes. For unknown reasons, the man walked into the roadway and directly into the path of an oncoming 2018 Ford. The driver did not see the pedestrian in the roadway due to the minimal lighting and his dark clothes, according to CHP.
The pedestrian was struck and killed.
The driver of the Ford, a 42-year-old man from Hayward, stayed on scene and waited for emergency personnel, according to CHP.
The pedestrian’s identity has not been released and the crash is still under investigation.
