Bakersfield police confirm a pedestrian was killed Wednesday afternoon. The unidentified woman is the first pedestrian killed in Kern County in 2018.
The woman was hit by a vehicle in the 1600 block of Union Avenue at about 1 p.m. She was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Police said she was struck crossing a roadway outside of a crosswalk.
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision according to police.
The woman’s identity will be released by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
