Tuesday marked the third anniversary of the passing of Bakersfield police officer David Nelson.
Tuesday night, members of the community placed candles and signs of appreciation at the corner of Panorama Drive and Mount Vernon Avenue.
That’s the spot where Officer Nelson crashed his patrol car during a high speed pursuit on June 26, 2015.
Daniel Hernandez, founder of Police Lives Matter 661, said remembering Nelson is important for the law enforcement.
“Our law enforcement does so much for us, and we rarely show our appreciation and love for what they do, and when they lose a brother it’s a rarely hard day so for them to see the appreciation and support they get from the community makes a big difference,” she said.
A memorial scholarship was also established in Officer Nelson’s memory.
