City of Bakersfield officials are closer to completing the final phase of the Mill Creek Vision Plan.
At Wednesday night’s city council meeting, officials voted to move forward with a proposal to build an entertainment venue in the 5-acre lot at California Avenue and P Street. The venue would be added to the “South Mill Creek Entertainment District” which already includes Maya Cinemas, Bakersfield Ice Center and McMurtrey Aquatic Center.
The venue is called “Discovery Bakersfield” and would include “a unique California-lifestyle experience by combining a hip, sophisticated bowling center, state-of-the-art concept hall designed for touring acts and live entertainment, a basement speakeasy and private event facilities” with dining options.
The vision was proposed by Jeremy and Josh Pemberton, who opened their first entertainment venue, “Discovery Ventura” in 2013. The management group hopes to add Discovery Bakersfield after it opens a similar venue, “Discovery San Luis Obispo” on the central coast this summer.
The purchase price for the property is $2.23 million.
The project must be completed within two years of closing escrow, according to a letter of intent.
