A local non-profit is doubling down on its efforts to bring food and necessities to people in need.
Carol O’Connor and her husband started Blessing Box in Bakersfield over a year ago as a community food pantry.
She says their motto is “take what you need, give what you can.”
“A lot of people live pay check to pay check, that it’s easy to become homeless or it’s easy to not be able to have food until your next paycheck. So, it’s to help anybody that needs the food,” she said.
The first box is set up outside the Congregational Church of Bakersfield on Real Road and cut the ribbon on a second Blessing Box outside Bakersfield Family Church on Wilson Road.
The box is open 24/7 and can be found at 5 Read Road or 106 Wilson Ave.
