New Bakersfield clinic hopes to combat opioid addiction epidemic

News

A new clinic opening in Bakersfield says it wants to tackle the opioid crisis at home.

The clinic is called Groups and will offer services to help people recover from opioid abuse at a low out-of-pocket cost. It also offers free weekly therapy for families.

The clinic’s staff is small, but one counselor, Ariel Turner, says they know what others are going through.

“We’re ran by a whopping staff of two women. Both of us are young and have personal recovery, so when you come into the office, there’s no shame, there’s no guilt,” Turner said. “We know what it’s like and we’re just here to help.”

Friday’s ribbon cutting will have food and activities with local dog rescue Marley’s Mutts joining in. It takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The clinic is located at 3550 Q St.
