The man who led authorities on a chase from Southern California to Kern County last week has pleaded “not guilty” to his charges.
Paroled sex offender Stephen Houk was arraigned in a Los Angeles courtroom Monday afternoon.
His charges include kidnapping and child abuse along with injuring a spouse and assault with a firearm.
Police say last week, Houk attacked his wife and took off with their children in an RV.
Police chased Houk from Los Angeles to Bakersfield where he escaped into an orchard, just north of the city off Highway 99.
Two days later, law enforcement arrested Houk in Barstow when he tried hopping a train to Arizona.
