For her birthday, the mother of missing Baylee Despot is asking friends to donate to the Secret Witness program in lieu of gifts.
The mother of missing Baylee Despot considers herself very lucky that she knows people who were willing to donate money for a reward for finding Baylee. But she soon realized, so many other families, including those of Micah Holsonbake and James Kulstad, aren’t able to do the same.
Baylee’s mother, along with the mothers of Micah and James want to change that, not just for their children, but for the hundreds of other families who are at the mercy of tipsters who may only pick up that phone, if there’s a reward.
For the last six months, Jane Parrent has spent her days hanging fliers for her missing daughter.
Celebrating birthdays and holidays without her child is an excruciating thought, but with her birthday around the corner, Parrent came up with a plan with a goal of $1,000. Parrent asked her friends to donate to Secret Witness in lieu of gifts.
“Secret Witness might not only help my case and Micah’s case and James’ case, but there’s so many other cases that need people to call in and give information, help them find their loved ones, help find out who these murderers are and get them off the street,” she said.
With a week left to go, Parrent has already exceeded her goal with nearly 12 hundred dollars.
Though her child is missing-jane wants to help families without any money for rewards, so these funds will go towards whichever case or cases the secret witness board decides is most in need.
“If you ever for a second think you don’t know where your kid is for an hour you’re freaking out. This has been over six months of me freaking out. Not knowing where my daughter is, if she’s alive or dead I just hope that people will help and somebody will call in and help me find her and help other cases.”
As Parrent agonizes over wondering if her daughter is dead, and the leg found in the lake or the arm found in the river this summer could belong to her child, she has another birthday request.
“I would like to see the community come together and lets put pressure on the city and county to do something about Lake Bunea Vista. That’s somebody’s loved one out there, and we need to either drain the lake, drag it, do another search with the boats or something to bring that person home to their loved ones. And the same with the river,” Parrent said.
The Secret Witness Foundation says they have received some donations since the Bakersfield 3 discussed the need for more funding.
In early October, it was estimated the non-profit had just about $1,500.
Between Parrent’s birthday fundraiser and the Bakersfield 3 Facebook, the mothers have raised about $2,000.
You can still donate to Parrent’s birthday fund on her Facebook page until her birthday on Nov. 7.
You can always donate directly to Secret Witness by going to their website, KernSecretWitness.com.
