A Bakersfield mother whose boyfriend is accused of killing her two-year-old son was sentenced in court as a part of a plea deal.
Ayled Chavez, 19, was sentenced to two years in prison in return for her testimony against boyfriend Kaleb Kessinger, 20.
The body of Ramon Angel Reyes Chavez, 2, was found buried in the Kern River Canyon in late April. Ayled, his mom, initially told police someone kidnapped the child. But, investigators say Chavez and Kessinger buried Ramon after he died in Kessinger’s care.
Chavez agreed to plead no contest to child abuse. In exchange, murder and assault charges were dropped.
Kessinger is scheduled to appear in court next month for a readiness hearing, with trial slated for Jan. 22.
