Mother accused of killing son in apparent suicide pact gone wrong

Cynthia Gulley, 55, appeared in court Wednesday charged with first-degree murder.

Court documents say Gulley called 911 around 2:45 a.m. last Tuesday, reporting two dead bodies. She told dispatch her son asked her to kill him.
When officers arrived at the home on Hemlock Avenue, they found Gulley lying facedown on the couch, on top of her dead son, 35-year-old Christian Gulley. Police said he had puncture wounds on his chest. Her husband was nearby on a hospital gurney, also dead. With her eyes closed, Gulley held up her hand and said do not resuscitate.
According to a transcript of the 911 call, Gulley referred to a note she says they all signed stating they had a pact. She said her husband and son left the killing up to her because they couldn’t do it themselves. Gulley told police she tried to kill herself but the blade wasn’t sharp enough.
Officers found a two page suicide note. What it said and if the men signed it, is unknown.

Gulley did not enter a plea during her court appearance. Her arraignment was continued until next week. She is being held on $1 million bail.
