Court documents reveal the alleged unhealthy conditions a 3-month-old baby girl of a Bakersfield couple was living in before she died three years ago. On Tuesday, the baby’s mother accepted a plea deal in the case.
The coroner determined Aylin Bautista died in 2015 of natural causes — bacterial septic shock, caused by bacteria such as E. Coli or listeria.
Court documents indicate living conditions likely played a role in the infant’s health.
Investigators noted spoiled milk, rat droppings and cockroaches all over the house, even in the baby’s diaper and car seat.
The baby’s mother Erika Cervantes, took a plea deal Tuesday, pleading no contest to one charge of child abuse. In exchange three other child abuse charges were dropped.
The baby’s father, Jesus Bautista, is scheduled to go to trial next year.
