BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A total of 1,145.9 pounds of prescription medications were collected countywide Saturday as part of an event where the Drug Enforcement Administration partnered with local agencies in collecting expired and unused drugs.

Bakersfield police said 978.7 pounds were collected at BPD locations. The remainder were collected by Tehachapi and Bear Valley police departments.

Last fall, nearly 460 tons of prescription drugs were turned in at more than 5,800 sites operated by the DEA and roughly 4,800 local agencies, according to a BPD news release.
