Middle school assistant principal accused of sexual contact with teen released from jail

An assistant principal arrested following a standoff with Bakersfield police in East Bakersfield Monday is now out on bail.

Ector Pereida was released from jail on $70,000 bond early Tuesday morning. Pereida was arrested following a four-hour standoff with Bakersfield police.

Greenfield Union School District officials confirmed Pereida, 53, is the assistant principal at McKee Middle School. He is on paid administrative leave.

Police said they began investigating accusations Sunday night that he had sexual contact with a teen.

Pereida is due back in court on July 3 for arraignment.
