House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and military leaders held a forum for students interested in attending a U.S. Service Academy.
The forum was held at the Kern County Board of Supervisors Chambers Saturday morning.
Organizers presented the application process to receive the nomination for one of the five academies.
They also had a presentation about the congressional nomination process by Congressman McCarthy and academy liaison officers.
Officials say that while the majority of the academies require a congressional nomination – the U.S. Coast Guard does not and is solely based on a nationwide merit-based competition.
