Kern County counsel Mark Nations says the fight over Charles Manson’s body and estate could move to Bakersfield.

A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge could rule on a petition that would move the battle to Kern County with a hearing scheduled for Friday, Jan. 26.

Last Friday, Kern County Deputy District Counsel Bryan Walters filed a petition for instructions on Manson’s body. That hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 31, in Kern County Superior Court.

Nations told 17 News that moving future hearings would be easier on Kern County staff.

Manson died at Mercy Downtown Hospital in November. His body is being held at the county morgue until a ruling is made on his estate.

Editor’s note: This story has been updated to include information on a hearing scheduled to take place in Bakersfield on Jan. 31.
