A man accused of firing shots at sheriff’s deputies during a standoff in Shafter in April will not go on trial for attempted murder.
John Wells was arrested on April 1 at a home on Atlantic Avenue following a standoff, in which deputies say Wells opened fire in the direction of the SWAT team.
No one was hit by the gunfire, however.
Wells previously pleaded not guilty to attempted murder of a peace officer, but the District Attorney’s office announced Wells will be sent to a mental hospital for up to three years.
