A man shot by Bakersfield police officers in May 2015 was sentenced Tuesday for charges related to the incident.

A jury was hung last month on assault charges with a deadly weapon against Gilbert Fajardo, but he was found guilty of obstructing justice and resisting arrest.

Officers say they found him slumped over a steering wheel in a church parking lot in the 600 block of Planz Road.

They say he started the vehicle, so one officer who thought her partner was being run over opened fire.
Fajardo was given credit for time served and will be on probation for three years.

That officer-involved shooting was ruled justified by the Kern County District Attorney’s Office.
