A man was hospitalized Saturday morning after threatening to kill himself inside the Denny’s on Buck Owens Boulevard, causing an hours-long standoff with police.

Officers responded to calls of a suicidal person around 5 a.m.

When they arrived, they began negotiations with a man inside the restaurant who was holding a knife to his throat, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
