Man dies following early morning Gage Street stabbing; police arrest victim’s brother for murder

UPDATE (8 p.m.): Bakersfield police said Wednesday night the man who died following an early morning stabbing on Gage Street was stabbed during a fight with his own brother.

Bakersfield police said they arrested 32-year-old Ralph Valenzuela Jr. for the murder of his younger brother, Richie Vincent Valenzuela, 30.

Police said Richie Vincent Valenzuela was stabbed multiple times during a fight at around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 25.

Police said officers found Ralph Valenzuela Jr. in the 8500 block of Kern Canyon Road at around 5:15 p.m. and was later arrested and booked for murder into the Kern County Jail.

The Kern County Coroner’s Office released the identity of a man who was stabbed to death Wednesday morning.

The coroner said 30-year-old Richie Vincent Valenzuela died of his wounds following a stabbing in the 1400 block of Gage Street.

The coroner said the stabbing happened just before 12:30 a.m Wednesday, but Valenzuela died at Kern Medical hours later.

Bakersfield police have not released details of Valenzuela’s death.

This is the 69th homicide in Kern County so far this year.

Last year at this time, there were 58 killings in the county.
