Man dies after being struck by vehicle in Northeast Bakersfield


UPDATE: The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified the man as 29-year-old Daniel Tofalla-Espinoza of Bakersfield.

A man was killed after he was struck by a vehicle in Northeast Bakersfield on Tuesday night.

The collision happened around 8:20 p.m. In the 4200 block of Auburn Street.

According to Bakersfield police, a skateboarder as crossing Auburn Street outside of a crosswalk when he was hit by a car.

The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Bakersfield police Sgt. Mike Garrity reminds drivers and pedestrians to be cautious on the roads.

“Drivers should be cognizant that sometimes pedestrians don’t follow the rules of the road and they should anticipate somebody stepping out in front of them when they’re not supposed to so maybe slow down a bit, make sure we’re not distracted by anything inside the vehicle and we’re paying attention to the roadway ahead of us,” he said.

Police said the driver is cooperating with police and it does not appear alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
