Man arrested on gun and drug charges in Wasco

A man wanted on an outstanding felony warrant was arrested in Wasco and charged on additional gun and drug charges, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. 

Lionel Lopez, 33, was arrested around 2 p.m. Wednesday in the 1100 block of 7th Place. 

Lopez was riding a bicycle near the intersection of Griffith Avenue and 7th Street when he was recognized by a deputy in the area as being wanted on an outstanding felony warrant. The deputy told Lopez to stop, but Lopez ignored the demand and took off on the bicycle, according to KCSO. 

While being pursued, Lopez tossed a bag into a nearby dumpster, KCSO said. That bag was found with a .357 revolver, and ammunition, inside.  

Lopez surrendered to deputies on 7th Place, and was booked for the outstanding felony warrant and charges of possessing of a firearm as a convicted felon, possessing of ammunition as a convicted felon, possessing drug paraphernalia, and resisting arrest.
