A man is in custody, accused of over 100 charges of animal cruelty after officials removed over 100 animals from his property.

Kern County Animal Services received complaints of several dogs in distress at the home of 69-year-old Allen Lee in Tehachapi.

Deputies discovered about 144 dogs and three birds at the residence last week, according to KCAS. The dogs were removed from the home and are currently with animal services.

Lee was booked on March 27 and is currently being held on more than $1 million bail.

Animal services had been in contact with the property since 2012 for a number of complaints, but never had a probable cause to search the residence until last week, said animal service officials.

Lee is due in court on Thursday.
