Man arrested after firing gun at Central Bakersfield home

A ShotSpotter activation led Bakersfield police officers to arrest a man on gun and drug-related charges.

On Monday night around 9:20 p.m., officers were notified by ShotSpotter of gunshots in the 100 block of Donna Avenue, near Brundage Lane and 1st Street. When officers arrived to the home, they located eight empty cartridges in the backyard.

The homeowner, Jose Orquiza, 38, admitted to firing a gun. No victims were located and a witness told officers that the gunfire was ‘celebratory.’

Officers searched the residence and located four rifles and two handguns, according to BPD. They also located marijuana and a large amount of money congruous with drug sales.

As a result, Orquiza was arrested for:

-negligent discharge of a gun
-possession of unregistered guns
-poses sion of high-capacity magazines
-sales of marijuana
