Last year, six local children died, all of them under the age of two. Experts say the cases of children who survive abuse are in some cases even more tragic and often times those stories aren’t heard.
Police arrested 25-year-old Dayvone Pearson in June at this south Bakersfield home. He’s accused of child abuse and torture.
Doctors reported suspected abuse when the nine month old baby boy was taken to a local urgent care. His condition was so severe, he was transferred to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera.
Court records state the baby was covered in bruises and had multiple skull fractures. Police said Pearson admitted he caused the injuries by dropping the baby and hitting him.
Pearson is being held on $100,000 bail.
