The man accused in a machete attack that wounded and hospitalized two people Sunday, pleaded not guilty to charges against him.
Robert Daniel Rivas was arrested by Bakersfield police Sunday after allegedly attacking a woman he dated with a machete. The attack hospitalized the woman and another man who stepped in to help the woman.
The attack happened in broad daylight at a Starbucks on Stockdale Highway in Southwest Bakersfield.
The woman remains listed in critical condition but stable, while the man suffered deep wounds to his hands that needed 200 stitches.
Rivas is charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest.
Rivas’ next hearing is scheduled for Sept. 21.
