The man accused in a deadly DUI crash in Bakersfield, allegedly told medical staff he had a “pretty good lawyer” while refusing to answer questions.

Cristian Avalos is charged with felony DUI and murder for a crash on Panama Lane near Highway 99.

In late October, Avalos allegedly blew through a red light and hit another vehicle hard enough to knock the engine out of the car.

The driver, Pablo Villareal Garcia, died at the scene.

Police documents say Avalos told officers he was too drunk answer questions, and continued to be uncooperative at the hospital.

Investigators described Avalos as showing no care or remorse for the collision.
