Local woman provides homeless lunch in honor of son

A Bakersfield mother organized a free lunch for the homeless as a way to honor her son Nagi Almansoob who was once homeless.

“One of his desires was, when he got sober he wanted to open a sober living home and help the homeless so we’re going to fulfill his dream and desire for as long as we can,” said organizer Alice Castillo.

Despite overcoming homelessness and substance abuse, he died last year while battling mental illness.

Castillo says the amount of donations she received from friends and family was enough to cover the entire event,  and she hopes to hold more in the future.
