Local high school students got an up close and personal look Wednesday at the day-to-day lives of medical professionals.
The group of students, from Liberty High School in Northwest Bakersfield, were given a tour of the Bakersfield Heart Hospital, learning how medical diagnoses are made. The tour was part of Project Lead the Way, which works to prepare students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math for future careers.
For Wednesday’s lesson, students were asked to identity the cause of a fictional character’s death, school officials said.
“I hope they walk away from this feeling inspired and knowing their career opportunities, and knowing they can serve their local community,” said Liberty High School teacher Ashley Bocanegra.
The hospital has been involved in educational endeavors before, hosting lessons last week on identifying heart disease.
