Donald Glover, who goes by the stage name Childish Gambino, recently released a music video for “This is America.” The music video has received a lot of attention since its weekend debut including locally.

The video features Bakersfield siblings, Trinity and Devin Penn, playfully dancing in school uniforms alongside a smiling Gambino as he jumps from scene-to-scene. The video is packed with metaphors and satire.

Through several scenes, the video deals with race, gun violence and police brutality.

Before the music video released on Youtube, the siblings were in New York as Glover made his “Saturday Night Live” hosting debut, doubling as the musical guest.

That’s when the song took off, with over 76 million views on Youtube in its first six days.

The lyrics are simple, “This is America” — a nod to how normalized gun violence and other social issues have become.
