UPDATE (Oct. 7, 12:00 p.m.) — The Kern County Sheriff’s Office identified the third person killed in a Shafter collision on Monday. The driver of the Chevy Impala that struck an Infiniti on Poplar Avenue and Orange Street is the person identified.
KCSO identified the driver of the Chevy Impala as 19-year-old Yolanda Gutierrez, a Shafter resident. She was taken to Kern Medical following the crash and later died from her injuries.
UPDATE (Oct. 7, 11:13 a.m.) — The Kern County Sheriff’s Office identified two of the three people killed in a Shafter collision on Monday. The driver and passenger of an Infiniti that was struck by a Chevy Impala on Poplar Avenue and Orange Street are the two who have been identified.
KCSO identified the driver as 27-year-old Juan Gabriel Luna Carranza. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The right front passenger of the Infiniti has been identified as 27-year-old Ramon Suastegui Arreola. He was also pronounced dead at the scene.
UPDATE: Two Bakersfield residents and one Shafter resident were killed in Monday’s collision, according to the CHP.
The department said an Infiniti sedan was heading southbound on Poplar Avenue approaching the Orange Street intersection while a Chevy Impala was heading westbound on Orange Street at high speeds. The CHP said the Impala failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection and struck the Infiniti.
The department said the collision killed the driver of the Infiniti and the right front passenger, both 27-year-old Bakersfield residents. A 24-year-old rear passenger suffered major injuries and was taken to Kern Medical for treatment, according to the department.
The 19-year-old woman driving the Impala suffered severe injuries and was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead, the CHP said. A 24-year-old passenger suffered major injuries from the accident and was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
SHAFTER, Calif. (KGET) — Two people were killed in a collision on Monday in Shafter.
The California Highway Patrol said the accident happened at around 4 p.m. on Poplar Avenue near Orange Street. The department said a vehicle traveling at high speeds ran a stop sign and hit another vehicle.
The two occupants in that vehicle suffered major injuries in the crash and were pronounced dead at the scene.
