Supervisors to discuss potential medicinal marijuana ballot measure

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Proponents of a ballot measure to lift the county's ban on medicinal marijuana have gathered enough valid signatures to qualify the issue for a vote this November, but it is yet to be seen if the board of supervisors will place the initiative on the ballot or have the vote delayed.

The initiative, proposed by Kern Citizens for Patient Rights, would allow voters to decide if the ban should be upheld.

Supervisors could choose to order an environmental impact report on the initiative, which could prevent it from being placed on November's ballot.

The board will discuss the issue at its meeting July 24.
