State increases water allotment for local water agencies

Good news for state water contractors, the state water project allocation just doubled from last year’s estimate for the 2019 water year.

The California Department of Water Resources announced that the allocation has increased from 35 to 70 percent for most state water contractors.

The department transports state water to 29 contractors, including the Kern County Water Agency.

The increase comes from last month’s above average precipitation levels.

The Kern County Water Agency says the 70 percent allocation represents an additional 350,000 acre-feet of water for a total of 700,000 acre-feet for Kern County.

The 2019 water year starts Oct. 1.
