UPDATE (Nov. 26, 9:16 p.m.): The coroner’s office identified the pedestrian as Jaimie Lynn Singleton, 39, of Bakersfield.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Bakersfield police are investigating a collision Friday night that killed a pedestrian on Ming Avenue.

The collision was reported just after 7:30 p.m. in the 4700 block of Ming Avenue. The driver of a pickup truck collided with a woman who was walking on the road outside of a crosswalk at the time of the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bakersfield Police Department Sgt. Chance Koerner said the woman appeared to be a transient. The driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators. Drugs, alcohol and speed did not appear to be factors in the collision.

The Kern County Coroner’s Office will identify the woman.

Ming Avenue was closed in both directions between Valhalla Drive and New Stine Road for the investigation.

Koerner urged all pedestrians to stay out of the roads and to use crosswalks when attempting to cross the road.

“Pedestrians have got to stay out of the roadway, because the car is going to win every time,” he said.
