UPDATE (March 16): BPD said that at around 1 p.m. on Sunday, officers were sent to a residence in the 4100 block of Whitegate Avenue regarding a firearm that had been located.
The department said a 10-year-old boy found a firearm in his backyard. He had discharged the gun, believing it was not a genuine firearm. The parent of the boy immediately responded and took the gun from the boy. No injuries were sustained as a result of the incident.
When officers arrived, they seized the weapon, which they believe was used in last week’s homicide.. Other items belonging to one of the suspects were also located in the backyard.
UPDATE (March 13): On Thursday, the Bakersfield Police Department arrested two people in connection with the murder of Joshua Rocha.
Darius Poole, 19, and 18-year-old Ameion Oliver were arrested and booked into the Kern County Jail on suspicion of murder and conspiracy.
The department said it is seeking the community’s assistance in locating the firearm that was used in the homicide. It is believed that the gun was discarded by one of the suspects in the area of the 4100 block of Whitegate Avenue.
Officers and police personnel have canvassed the area but have been unable to locate the firearm at this time, the department said.

UPDATE: KCSO has identified the man killed as Joshua Isidro Rocha, 21, of Los Angeles.
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Police are investigating a shooting that left a man dead and police said they are searching for two suspects.
Officers were called to the 4100 block of Whitegate Avenue at around 8:15 p.m. where they found a man with gunshot wounds described as “major.”
The man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said suspects in the shooting fled the scene. No description of any suspect was immediately available.
