North of the River is unveiling its first-ever pickleball court tomorrow.
Players can grab their paddles, whiffleballs and head over the to the Greenacres Pickleplex at Greenacres Community Center and Park, 2014 Calloway Drive this Saturday at 9 a.m. For a grand opening.
Pickleball originated in the 1960s. It’s a combination of tennis, badminton and table tennis. NOR established the eight courts after a push from local pickleball enthusiasts.
“These courts are the first of what we hope to be several sets in various locations throughout the District,” says David McArthur, NOR General Manager. “The popularity of pickleball has skyrocketed and we are excited to be able to offer dedicated courts for recreational use as well as tournament play.”
The ribbon cutting will feature music, refreshments and a raffle, according to NOR.
