UPDATE: KCSO identifies body pulled from vehicle found submerged in South Bakersfield canal

UPDATE: The Kern County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man as 40-year-old Alfred Juan Gomez.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – A body was pulled from a vehicle that was found submerged in a canal Sunday morning in South Bakersfield.

Police and emergency crews were called to a canal off South H Street between Panama Lane and Berkshire Road Sunday morning after a water district employee found the car under water in the canal, according to Bakersfield police Sgt. Mike Gerrity.

One body was found in the vehicle, but it’s not known when the collision occurred or what caused the vehicle to go off the road, crash through a fence and into the canal.

The Kern County Coroner’s Office will identify the body.
