Nearly $600,000 was raised in the name of cancer research at the 27th annual Bakersfield Relay for Life, according to organizers.
The grand total came in at $593,989.88, with Aera Energy, Stella Hills Basket Cases, and Wells Fargo teams coming in with the top three donations, with $61,869, $52,807, and $27,000, respectively. Approximately $725,000 was raised at the 2017 event.
More than 2,000 people participated in relay teams, with 967 cancer survivors in attendance, organizers said.
The annual Relay for Life, put on by the American Cancer Society, raises money to fund cancer research worldwide and provide support for cancer patients.
