Update: The California Highway Patrol’s says the collision happened when a Terence Patt, 43, was driving westbound on Highway 223 and made a left turn onto south Edison Road, just ahead of the motorcyclist traveling in the same direction.

For unknown reasons, the motorcyclist began to pass traffic on the left lane, into the direct path of the Peterbilt semi-truck and crashed at the intersection, according to a news release.

Kern County Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and provided medical aid to the motorcyclist, but the rider succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said.

Patt did not sustain any injuries.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision. The crash is still under investigation.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A motorcyclist died of injuries following a crash Sunday afternoon near Lamont, according to CHP.

The collision involving a motorcycle and semi truck with box trailer was reported just after 12:15 p.m. at Bear Mountain Boulevard and South Edison Road, according to the California Highway Patrol Incident Information Page.

The cause of the collision was not immediately clear.
