BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Local lawmakers are working across party lines to get help in the Valley fever fight.
Senator Jean Fuller, Assemblymen Vince Fong and Rudy Salas requested a $3 million Valley fever grant.
The money from the grant would go toward research in developing a vaccine and local facilities that treat Valley fever patients.
According to Kern County Public Health, Valley fever infected 2,310 people and killed six people in the county in 2016.
The number of infected in Kern County accounts for 40 percent of total cases in California.
