A jury has awarded $10 million to a Lamont family that accused a former elementary school employee of molesting their daughter.

According to the family’s attorney, Daniel Rodriguez, the alleged incident happened at Myrtle Avenue Elementary in 2014.

The employee, Jonathan Avalos, was also accused by other families of inappropriately touching young girls in an after-school program.

In the civil lawsuit, Rodriguez accused the Lamont Elementary School District and the Boys and Girls Clubs, which ran the program, of ignoring the red flags about the employee.

“The number one job of every society, of every community, including ours, is the protection of our kids,” said Rodriguez.

Avalos was never criminally charged.

But, Rodriguez says after the verdict they plan to ask the district attorney to reconsider filing criminal charges against the district.
