Firefighters stop blaze at vacant East Bakersfield home from spreading to nearby home

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Firefighters were able to stop flames from further damaging a home next to a burning vacant home Wednesday night in East Bakersfield.

City and county fire crews were called to a home in the 1900 block of Haley Street for a report of a fire to a vacant home just before 8 p.m.

Bakersfield Fire Department Battalion Chief Kevin Albertson a garage in the vacant home was in flames and was spreading to the neighboring home.

Albertson said crews’ quick work stopped the flames in time to prevent more damage. A small portion of the neighboring home was damaged, he said.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
