BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — CHP in Bakersfield says Highway 178 has reopened after a wildfire forced a closure at the mouth of the canyon Friday.

The River Fire, which was reported at 12:44 p.m. has grown to 25 acres and was at 40 percent containment as of Friday afternoon, according to officials with the U.S. Forest Service.

The highway is closed on the east side at Old Kern Canyon Road, but there are plans to re-open the canyon later tonight.
