BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Bakersfield City Council voted Wednesday night on final approval of redrawing ward boundaries for the next 10 years.

The city council adopted ward map 5B. The ward boundaries create three new Latino-majority districts and unites voters in the Sikh and Punjabi community in Ward 7.

The map was drawn by a grassroots acitivist organization called the Jakara Movement.

The new ward boundary map will go into effect in the November election.
