BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — CHP says a total of seven people were injured in a suspected DUI head-on crash in South Bakersfield Monday night.

CHP says the crash happened at around 8:15 p.m. when the driver of a GMC Sierra pickup truck veered into westbound traffic on Di Giorgio Road just west of Cottonwood Road.

According to CHP, a 6-month-old girl and a 3-year-old girl traveling in the GMC Sierra suffered major injuries and were taken to local hospitals.

CHP Sgt. Patrick Etchebarne said the driver of the GMC showed symptoms of alcohol intoxication following the crash and was taken to Kern Medical.

Three people suffered moderate injuries and were taken to area hospitals.

CHP urges the public to avoid drinking and driving and to designate a sober driver if you are drinking.
