UPDATE (6/8): The CHP says the driver in Monday’s crash appeared to suffer a medical condition resulting in the vehicle leaving the road and hitting a chain link fence.
It doesn’t appear the crash killed the driver, officers said. An off-duty Taft police officer who found the driver passed out behind the wheel with a foot on the gas got the driver out of the vehicle and attempted CPR.
The driver was later pronounced dead.
Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor, officers said.
